Chinese Lanterns

Traditional Chinese lanterns are made with a bamboo structure, over which is stretched a cover of tinted silk. Modern lanterns are built on a structure of metal wires bent into shape, over which a synthetic dyed fabric is stretched. Traditional lanters are lit with candles. Modern ones are lit with incandescent and LED lights.
There was a display of modern lanterns in a local park this month. Here are a few photos of these modern Chinese Lanterns.

St Thomas US Virgin Islands

Went to the Virgin Island of St Thomas for one week. Came back with 1,211 pictures, and I still feel I missed many opportunities. We visited Coral World, which is a major attraction there; and spent a day at Magens Bay, rated one of the best beaches in the world. It is a protected site with no development adjacent to the beach, and a Nature Conservancy area with trails through the woods.
